  1. My first attempt at making dog treats was a success. Sandy and Buster give the recipe 2 Paws Up!

Here is the recipe for Peanut Busters:

    1 – 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
    ¾ cup oatmeal
    ¼ cup wheat germ
    ¼ cup crunchy peanut butter
    ¼ cup vegetable oil
    ¼ cup honey
    1 tsp baking powder
    ½ cup water
Mix all ingredients in a bowl until blended. Roll into small balls, approximately 1 Tbsp per ball, flatten the ball into a circle shape. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 325 F for 15-20 minutes.
I baked the biscuits for 15 minutes then flipped them over for an additional 5 minutes to achieve a golden brown color on both sides.

Peanut Busters do not contain preservatives so I will have to see how long they last on the shelf. The dough is moist and can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer and baked as needed.
There are a lot of pet treats on the market, some of which I am sure are very good, but I like the idea of knowing exactly what is in the treats that I am feeding.
This recipe is from the website Dog Treat Recipe Exchange and is called Buddy’s Crazy Good Peanut Butter Dog Treats.

  2. Peanut Busters lasted well on the shelf for one week. They got a little crunchier as the week went by, but Buster and Sandy did not seem to mind. The frozen Peanut Busters thawed in about 15 minutes and baked up nicely. These treats can be sized to fit into your dog’s favorite Kong Classic Dog Toy. Size the treat to make it slightly larger in diameter than the opening of the Kong toy. That way your dog will have a challenge when trying to get the treat out.
